HEADING BACK HOME TOMORROW
BACK
PHOTOS AND EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS.
Laurie Crouch - Fitter/Armourer.
October 17, getting clearances, collected papers from Orderly Room. Allan Stevenson and I went down to the strip on his bike. Had a good run through and finished by lunch time. Issued with Yank cigarettes after lunch then had a swim. Finalised packing and washing. Crates out on operation again; George Drury’s crate was shot up. Three planes off at 1600 for the evening operation. There are boys down there working late; they did not sight anything. Said au-revoir to a few of the boys. Had a luscious supper of pawpaw, peaches and cream. Probably my last night on ‘Ginger.’
George Dusting - Fitter IIE.
October 17, been changing the air compressor on A19-34. It’s been hellish hot. Our kites went out this morning looking for enemy flying boats. Couple more posting in to the Squadron. Rumoured that there are lost more postings of technical men but that they are holding them up because if the boys knew they were on the list they would probably stop work right away and there is a lot of inspections in, Hope I’m on that list.
Don Kirkwood - Navigator.
October 17, Sunday, plenty of work today. Fitted a rear gun to the kite being amongst the jobs accomplished. No letters.
