KITTYHAWKS ATTACK GASMATA
BACK
PHOTOS AND EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS.
George Dusting - Fitter IIE.
October 22, the Kittyhawks went to Gasmata in force today loaded with 500 lb bombs. They did the place over nicely but three were shot down and two pranged on return to Vivigani. The Beauforts claim to have torpedoed a destroyer. There are mysterious lights on the mountain and they suspect Japs. They are clearing the natives out of this vicinity. The boat rumour is still strong.
Don Kirkwood - Navigator.
October 22, Friday, morning at pool. Kittyhawk pranged on strip. Chap got out OK. Poor old boong chief came down and shook hands. They have been kicked off to Ferguson Island. No mail again. This is getting bad. Too long a break.
