WELCOME
BACK
Welcome to 30 Squadron RAAF
Hi everyone, on behalf of the members, welcome and trust you will enjoy your visit.
This site is under construction – it will be a long project, even though we have the material, it still takes time to edit and put the material on the site - so be patient with us please.
This site is dedicated to ALL of those “Flight Crews” and “Ground Crews” who served in the squadron both at home in Australia and the South West Pacific – it is THEIR story and the price many of them paid for our country - Australia.
2017 is an important year for 30 Squadron RAAF as it celebrates the 75th year since the formation of the Squadron at Richmond NSW on the 9th March 1942.
There is also another group who have all but been forgotten – these are the men and women who manufactured this incredible aircraft – theirs is one of the most important events in the changing of Australia from a rural country into a major manufacturing country in a very short time.
There are a number of people who had the dream to put the 30 Squadrons story on the net, the leading light is a man who had the big dream and who also gave inspiration for it to come about, that man is Fred Cassidy OAM and who is lovingly called “Mr. Beaufighter”.
It does not matter where you go in aviation circles everyone knows “Fred”.
His dream is and always was for a Beaufighter to be placed into the War Memorial – but there have been many in authority, who to suit their own agenda continually deny the existence of the “BEAU” as we affectionately call it and what it did.
So this site is also about what the Beaufighter did and the part it played in the defence of Australia in the dark years of the early 1940’s.
So enjoy your visit and as the lady says “Come back and see us Sometime”.
